Painting Flowers in Oil and Acrylics

Approaches to Color
Howard County Art Center / 4 session class / Jan 25- Feb. 15, 2024 / 6:30 - 8:30 pm
In this 4 session workshop learn how to approach color in your paintings by exploring color theory. This workshop is more about the exploration of color and it’s properties than a finished painting. Learn the basics of the color wheel; hue, chroma, and value. Learn to use a limited color palette to change the feeling of your paintings and harmonize colors. Students will make color charts to explore the relative lightness and darkness of different colors and investigate different tools to apply paint. Oil and Acrylic painters are welcome.
Drawing Basics

Students will learn the fundamentals of painting outside on location ‘en plein air’. We will review materials, composition, simplifying the subject, as well as color and value. The instructor will also discuss materials needed in a quick draw competition like framing techniques and wet painting transportation.
